DraftKings Heading for UK in October
As one of the most popular daily fantasy sites in the United States, it only makes sense for DraftKings to expand into additional markets in the years to come.
According to Jason Robbins, DraftKings CEO, the time has come for the fantasy sports operator to take a run at the UK market. It is expected to launch its service here in October 2015.
In August, DraftKings took the first step toward UK expansion by obtaining a license from the UK Gambling Commission.
During a recent RotoGrinders podcast, Robbins made note that liquidity in the UK market will be shared with the US market. He said, “There absolutely will be pooled liquidity.”
Is this the End?
While DraftKings is taking on an enormous project with its UK expansion, don’t expect the company to stop there. It has plans to take its services to Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Australia has also been mentioned as a possibility for the company.
Things are just starting to heat up for DraftKings in other parts of the world. By 2016, you can expect fantasy games for rugby and cricket, two of the most popular sports in the United Kingdom, to be available.
At this point, there are two things that matter:
- Players in the UK will now have access to one of the most popular fantasy sports operators in the world.
- DraftKings is asserting its dominance in a region outside of the United States, which will only help the company grow.
October is almost here. By the end of the month there will be plenty of additional news on the DraftKings expansion into the United Kingdom. Be sure to check back often as we will be covering this news.
